Deep sapphire, cobalt, turquoise and near-navy all appear on a single SO10 bloom. The dye settles unevenly into the grain of the sola, so every petal is streaked and mottled, and the tightly spiralled centre often shows a lighter, brighter blue than the darker outer petals. The effect is closer to hand-painted ceramic than to a flat, uniform colour.
The rose itself is fully formed, with rolled petals building from a coiled bud to a wide, layered outer ring. The product images show two blooms side by side in slightly different shades, and one turned to reveal its flat underside with a spiralled sola base, which confirms it is supplied without a stem and sits neatly on a surface.
SO10 is handmade in India from sola (shola) pith and then dyed blue. Sola’s absorbency, which takes the dye so deeply, also means these roses hold fragrance oils well, making them popular for reed-diffuser toppers and scented gift sets.
Blue is a hard colour to find in natural flowers, so this rose is a useful accent for nautical, winter and contemporary colour schemes. Floral Mongers supplies it wholesale and for export.

Natural variation
Dye takes differently into each piece of hand-shaped sola, so shade depth and the pattern of mottling vary from rose to rose, as the paired images show. Petal count and openness also differ slightly because each bloom is formed by hand. These are natural characteristics of handmade and botanical products, not defects; shade, size and grade are confirmed on sample approval.
Care & storage
- Keep away from direct sunlight to slow colour fading
- Keep dry; moisture can cause the blue dye to bleed onto nearby surfaces
- Test fragrance oils on one bloom first, as oil can deepen the colour
- Dust with a soft brush or cool air
- Store in a closed box between uses
- Unpack promptly on arrival and let the pieces air in a dry room; avoid storing in sealed, humid packaging
