About our sola flowers

Sola flowers are made from the pith of Aeschynomene aspera, a wetland plant of eastern India. Artisans slice the pith into thin sheets and form it by hand into petals and blooms, a craft long practised in West Bengal, where Floral Mongers is based. The finished flowers are light, hold their shape and absorb fragrance oil, which is why they are widely used as reed diffuser flowers.

Sola Flowers: frequently asked questions

What are sola flowers made of?

Sola flowers are handmade from sola pith, the soft core of the wetland plant Aeschynomene aspera. The pith is cut and shaped by hand into petals and flowers, and can be supplied natural, bleached or dyed.

Are sola flowers the same as “sola wood flowers”?

“Sola wood flowers” is a common retail name. Our flowers are made from sola pith, a light, spongy plant material rather than timber. If you are comparing suppliers, ask which material is used.

Can sola flowers be used with fragrance oils?

Yes. Sola pith absorbs fragrance oils, which is why sola flowers are widely used as diffuser flowers. Test your oil on a sample, as oils can change the tone of the flower.

Can you dye sola flowers to our colours?

Yes. We dye to your reference and you approve the shade on a sample. Natural materials take dye individually, so production is matched to the approved sample within natural variation.

What is the minimum order quantity?

MOQs depend on the product, finish and packing, and are confirmed in your quotation. You can combine several products from different categories in one enquiry.
