Its defining detail is the centre: a strip of sola cut into a dense fringe and coiled into a spiral, with the natural brown skin of the stem left on the cut edges. The result is a two-tone heart of ivory body and bark-brown tips that reads clearly from a distance and contrasts neatly with the plain petals.
The reverse shows a flat, round sola disc with a small central hole, so the flower sits steadily on a tray, table or wreath base and can be fitted onto a reed, stick or wire. Natural variation
Each lotus is cut and shaped by hand, so petal length, curl and count differ slightly from piece to piece; the brown skin on the spiral centre also varies in depth and tone because it is the natural outer layer of the sola stem.
