Each Palm Ring is a strip of dried palm material rolled into a tight spiral, so that from the front it resembles a coiled ribbon or an open rose. The rolled edges are finely fringed and velvety, and the centre dips into a small hollow. Several pieces in the photograph still carry a short, flat stalk extending from the coil.
The colour is a deep chocolate brown with slightly lighter edges, giving a soft, suede-like appearance. Placed in a bouquet, the spirals read as dark, flat flowers and add strong graphic interest among pods, cones and grasses. On a wreath base or a table runner they create repeating circles of texture, and craft makers use them for frames, boxes and wall panels.
