Kochi is sold under its Bengali trade name, and its look is unusual among dried naturals. Each piece is elongated and barrel-shaped, tapering slightly at both ends, with a chalky off-white body circled by raised brown bands that wrap around it like rings or a loose spiral.
The photograph shows a small group of pieces lying loose. No two are quite alike: some are plump and short, others longer and slimmer, and the brown banding varies from fine lines to broad stripes. The surface is matte and slightly uneven, with small fibrous tips at the ends that show where each piece was cut.
That strong striped pattern makes Kochi useful wherever texture is needed at a small scale. It works as a bowl and vase filler, in potpourri blends, around candles and in tray styling, and craft makers glue it onto wreaths, frames and boxes. Because the pieces are compact and sturdy, they also suit gift packaging and retail pick-and-mix displays.
