SO21 has a tall, tapering bud shape, closer to a pine cone or protea than to an open flower. Many plump, pointed petal pods overlap from base to tip in neat staggered rows, each one smooth and softly sheened, so the bud looks full and tightly closed.
Two wide, leaf-like sepals cup the base of the bud. These are cut from sola with its natural speckled beige skin, giving a freckled texture that contrasts with the clean ivory petals above. Below them, a short stem is bound in glossy dark brown wrapping, finishing the piece neatly for handling and insertion. The product images show the stick on warm timber, laid on hessian and standing upright on a wood slice.
Akondo is the Bengali name for the calotropis plant, whose plump, closed buds inspired this design. SO21 is handcrafted in India from sola (shola) pith and skin. Its upright, single-stem form makes it a natural fit for buttonholes and corsages, tall bud vases and structural points in bouquets and dried arrangements.
Floral Mongers supplies the Akondo Stick in bulk for florists, wedding suppliers and export customers.

Natural variation
Each petal pod is formed and placed by hand, so the bud’s height, fullness and taper vary between pieces. The speckled sepals come from natural sola skin, so the density and colour of the freckling are different on every stick. These are natural characteristics of handmade and botanical products, not defects; shade, size and grade are confirmed on sample approval.
Care & storage
- Keep dry and away from direct sunlight
- Hold by the wrapped stem rather than the bud
- Dust with cool air; a brush can catch between the pods
- Store laid flat in a box with tissue so buds do not rub together
- Unpack promptly on arrival and let the pieces air in a dry room; avoid storing in sealed, humid packaging
