SO19 opens wide, with fewer and larger petals than many sola designs. Each petal is long and rounded, folded at the tip into a small hood, and they spread outwards in two loose layers so the flower forms an informal star. The petals are a soft white with a fine, silky fibre texture and faint warm shading at the folded tips.
The centre is the defining feature: an oval, cocoon-shaped core tightly wrapped in brown fibre, with the wraps clearly visible as fine horizontal lines. It stands slightly proud of the petals and gives a strong earthy contrast. One gallery view shows a version with a pale natural centre instead, which indicates the core can be finished in either tone. The images also show the flowers grouped on a timber slice and resting in a wooden bowl.
This style is closely related to the hooded-petal Sarega design but reads more open and airy. It is handmade in India from natural sola (shola) pith and, like other sola flowers, readily takes fragrance oils for use as a diffuser or bowl accent.
