The photograph shows a mixed group of dyed sola heads in red, orange, yellow, magenta-pink and blue, pairing two familiar trade styles: fuller, rose-like Beli heads with swirled layers, and densely petalled Ginia heads with a compact, ruffled pom-pom look.
Each flower is cut and assembled by hand from sola pith, then colour-dyed. On several pieces the dye settles more deeply in the folds and leaves the petal tips paler or white, which gives the blue and pink heads in particular a two-tone, frosted edge. The red and yellow heads appear more solid in colour, with tightly packed petals.
