Sola flowers are all made from the same light, ivory pith, but the forms are remarkably varied: tight roses and open lotus, dahlias and sunflowers, buds on stems, decorative balls and flowers fitted with wicks for diffusers. Choosing the right form for your product is the first step in a clear specification.
This guide walks through the main sola flower forms in the Floral Mongers catalogue, with example product codes, and explains the choices you make for each: finish, size, stems and packing. For the material itself, start with Sola Flowers Explained.
Roses
Roses are the largest group in the range, and the petal style makes a big difference to the finished look:
- Classic and full roses with tightly wound centres, such as the Sola Roma Rose (SO28) and Sola Beauty Rose (SO84).
- Open and ruffled roses, for example the Sola Open Rose (SO39) and Sola Wood Rose (SO86).
- Ranunculus and camellia styles with many layered petals: the Sola Ranunculus Rose (SO42) and Sola Rose (SO25).
- Ribbon and ring roses built from long strips of pith, such as the Ribbon Sola Rose (SO02) and Sola Ring Rose (SO73).
- Dyed roses in single colours, including the Sola Blue Rose (SO10), Yellow Sola Rose (SO31) and Purple Sola Rose (SO50).
Compact rose shapes sit neatly on a bottle neck or a gift box, so roses are widely used for diffuser and gift work.
Lotus and water lily
Lotus designs have pointed petals arranged in tiers and read well from above, which makes them popular for diffusers and spa décor. Examples include the Sola Lotus – Broad Petal (SO13), Sola Lotus – Curled Tips (SO41), Sola Lotus – Rose Centre (SO22) and the Sola Mini Lotus (SO48). The Sola Skin Water Lily (SO64) keeps the natural brown outer skin on its petals.
Dahlias, sunflowers and other open flowers
Open, many-petalled flowers give more visual weight in an arrangement:
- Dahlias: the Sola Dalia (SO11), Sola Center Kadom Dalia (SO56) and dyed Red Sola Dalia (SO60).
- Sunflowers and daisies: the Sola Sunflower – Pointed Petal (SO24), Sola Sunflower – Spoon Petal (SO18) and Sola Daisy Sunflower (SO33).
- Specialty flowers inspired by Indian blooms, such as the Sola Siuli Flower (SO72), Sola Marigold (SO30), Sola Frangipani Flower (SO88) and Sola Gardenia Flower (SO87).
Flowers and buds on stems
Stemmed sola flowers are ready for vase arrangements, bouquets and florist work. Stems may be wire or wooden stick, and stem length and type are confirmed on request.
- Single flowers on stems: the Sola Flower on Stem – Lavender (SO97) and Sola Lotus on Stick – Dyed Colours (SO102).
- Bunches and assortments on stems: SO98 (white), SO99 (dusty rose) and SO100 (assorted colours).
- Buds: the Sola Bud Rose (SO85), Sola Peony Buds on Stem – Pastel (SO101) and Sola Bell Bud (SO26).
- Ball flowers on sticks: the Sola Ball Flower on Stick (SO01).
Diffuser flowers with wicks
For reed diffusers, the flower is fitted with a cotton wick that draws oil up into the petals. The range includes the Sola Diffuser Flower with Cotton Wick (SO94), the Sola Lotus Diffuser Flower with Wick (SO95) and the Sola Reed Diffuser Flower Set (SO96). If you would like a wick on another design, mention it in your enquiry. Sola Flowers for Reed Diffusers covers wick length, testing and specification.
Decorative balls, rings and specialty forms
Sola is also shaped into orbs and rings for bowl fillers, hanging décor and craft. Examples include the Sola Chips Ball (SO92), Sola Zebra Circle Ball (SO07), Coiled Sola Ribbon Ball (SO93) and Sola Ring (SO06).
Assortments
Colour-coordinated assortments of stemless heads save you building a mix yourself: Dusty Blue & Blush (SO103), Blue & Ivory (SO104) and Burgundy & Ivory (SO105).
Finishes: natural, dyed and skin
- Natural: the ivory to cream colour of the pith itself. Most designs are natural.
- Dyed: single colours or assortments; custom shades can be dyed to your reference and approved on a sample.
- Skin finish: some designs keep the brown outer skin of the stem on petal edges or centres for a two-tone, rustic look, for example the Sola Skin Flower (SO70).
Our guide Natural, Bleached or Dyed? explains how finish affects look, consistency and care.
How to specify a sola flower
- The product code (for example SO28) and, if you are adapting it, a reference photo.
- Finish or colour reference.
- Head size, if it matters for your packaging or bottle neck.
- Configuration: stemless, stem type and length, or wick.
- Pack count and packing (bulk, retail pack or private label).
- Quantity per design and destination.
Handmade flowers vary slightly from piece to piece, so an approved sample is the best reference for production; see Grades and Natural Variation. When you are ready, browse the full sola flower range, add codes to your RFQ list and request a quotation, or ask for samples first.
